The era of the 'Saloon Singer' persists in the guise
of 'butt kicker & get down' baritone Jamie Davis.
I conduct & sing with my fine 17-pce big band,
so I can affirm subjectively that Jamie's my kind
of 'sing-guh.' He delivers his renditions in a hard
swing no nonsense inflection. The big band he's chosen
for his project is as precise as it's intonation.
Executed for our benefit as well as for Jamie's indeed.
I might say a word about Jamie's band vocal arrangements
which are written with a new vitality & aggressiveness
worthy of & up to Jamie's melodic vocalise. Jamie's
rich phrasing re-invents our American Songbook with
a unique grace & experimentation, a striking contrast
to the 'usual' & the 'cliché.' This is a singer
who has recaptured the sound of the saloon singer
ala the Eckstine school.
